WILTON — Most of Wilton is scenic and quiet, far from the traffic noise of the Merritt Parkway to the south and I-84 to the north. Although it has commerce and industry many of its residential properties are located in serene settings, not the least of which is the 2.65-acre property that holds the gray contemporary house at 81 Grey Rocks Road.

This level and sloping property has a wood deck and several red brick patios, off various rooms throughout the 3,028-square-foot house, from which to take in the serene woodland setting. In all there are 1,000-plus square feet of outdoor patios inviting indoor-outdoor living and entertaining. This house is not far from the Weir Farm National Historic Site and Quarry Head Park. The 68-acre Weir Farm is the only national park dedicated to American Impressionist painting and includes hiking trails, gardens, art displays, and more activities and events.

The state-owned Quarry Head Park contains 33 acres and the “well-developed trail system enables visitors to walk through the park’s lowland as well as upland habitats. A map box is placed at the trail entrance … The trail network design makes either short or long hikes possible. The interconnected trails give visitors the option to select a route that meets individual needs. Also, there are several locations in Quarry Head where one can sit and enjoy the scenery,” according to the town website.

There is historical significance to the quarry property. It was Wilton’s most notable quarry. “During the 18th century, the quarry produced millstones for grinding rye and corn in local grist mills. The quarry indirectly gave rise to the name Millstone Road,” the website says. Grey Rocks Road is off Millstone Road.

Remote as it seems this house is actually not that far from town. It is only a ten-minute drive to the center of town and the train station.
