Leopard falls into dry well but survives

Forest dept. personnel place ladder in well for it to come out

A 2-year-old leopard in search of food fell into a dry well in Kallupalya village of Kunigal taluk in Tumakuru district on Wednesday night.

The villagers saw the leopard in the well after they heard its growl and informed the officials​ of the Forest Department.

The villagers said that it was trying to climb the wall of the 30-ft.-deep well to escape but couldn’t and sat at the bottom of the well.

The Forest Department personnel brought a wooden ladder and kept it in the well. They sent the villagers away and told them to maintain silence. The Forest personnel sat at a distance behind the bushes.

Range Forest Officer Ravi C. said “The leopard came out of the well using the wooden ladder, within 10 minutes, around 4 p.m.”

Carcass of leopard found

The carcass of a 8-year-old male leopard was found near the forest area of Kilara village of Kunigal taluk. Post-mortem revealed that it was a natural death.
