With admissions to Delhi University (DU) round the corner, a senior member of DU’s admission committee, Dr GS Tuteja, who also holds the office of Deputy Dean Students’ Welfare (Dy DSW) for the last 6 years, has drawn flak for allegedly partnering with a private centre for guiding students about DU admissions in an upcoming event.
The private centre claims to guide students on how to get admission in DU even at low scores! Its advertisement clearly says “how to get into DU if your score is 60 per cent”.
This came as a major embarrassment to the DU administration and teachers. Many of them said any such engagement on part of a university official closely associated with the admission process is uncalled for as it not only mars the reputation of the university but also puts whole academic community to shame.
“A thorough enquiry must be initiated to know whether any monetary or other form of interest is involved or not. Such things are really unbecoming of a teacher more so if he is closely associated with the admission process,”
said a departmental head of Science Faculty.
The matter came to light when name of Dr Tuteja, along with his photograph and designation, was prominently displayed in a private advertisement of “Jitin Chawla’s centre for career development”.
They have organised a “mega career workshop” for Class XII students on March 29 at NCUI auditorium for guiding aspirants for DU admissions.
“The DU Vice-Chancellor has taken a serious view of it,” sources said. The Registrar of DU, Tarun Das admitted having knowledge about this issue but advised to seek detailed clarification from the office of Dean Students’ welfare (DSW).
The agreement of the service of teachers of DU clearly said the a teacher shall devote his/her whole time to the service of the university and shall not without the permission of the university, engage, directly or indirectly, in any trade or business whatsoever, or in any private tuition or other work to which any emolument or honorarium is attached.
