Ryots back Anna Hazare’s stir

Flay State govt. for ‘diverting fertile farm land for other purposes’

Leaders from various farmers’ associations of the State met under the leadership of former parliamentarian Vadde Sobhanadreeswara Rao on Tuesday and pledged their support to the hunger strike taken up by Gandhian and social activist Anna Hazare at New Delhi pressing for the implementation M.S. Swaminathan Committee recommendations in the country.

The leaders said Mr. Hazare was also demanding setting up of Lok Pal at the Centre and Lok Ayukthas in the States after the Supreme Court gave its ruling in 2013.

Thousands of acres of fertile land was misused in the name of development by the State government thus reducing farmers to paupers, alleged Mr. Sobhanadreeswara Rao. Corruption reached a new high in the current TDP regime and the estimates of several projects, including irrigation, roads and highways were constantly changed to help contractors, he alleged.
