The Punjab Assembly today passed a breach of privilege motion against Leader of Opposition Sukhpal Singh Khaira for his alleged objectionable remarks against the ruling Congress MLAs over the issue of illegal sand mining.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Brahm Mohindra said Khaira had first made these baseless allegations against Congress MLAs on November 29, 2017, and repeated these remarks on March 26 this year.
Khaira had alleged that every Congress MLA was involved in illegal sand mining.
Bringing the breach of privilege motion against Khaira of the AAP, Mohindra told the Assembly, "I have gone through the record. He was speaking on the Governor's address and made the false and irresponsible allegations."
Mohindra said that "baseless" allegations levelled by Khaira not only breached the privileges of the treasury members but also violated the sanctity of the House.
The matter should be referred to the privilege committee, he said.
