5 people in custody, 1 in hospital after violent night in Edmonton

One man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after what Edmonton police are calling a “complex” overnight investigation.

As of Wednesday morning, police said a “number of incidents” occurred overnight that included a home invasion, a robbery, a kidnapping and a shooting.

A police spokesperson said several scenes are part of the investigation and officers are still working to piece together exactly what happened.

A Global News camera person was on scene in the area of 18 Street and Manning Drive and could see a blue SUV in a field with all doors open. Police tape was surrounding the vehicle.

No further information was provided, but police said a news release would be issued later Wednesday.
