City are keen to lock Jesus down to fresh terms to keep him at the club until 2023.
The Brazilian has impressed since his arrival at Manchester City from Palmeiras in January last year.
But he has put contract talks on ice for now after snubbing a £90,000-a-week deal.
That is according to the Mail, who claim the forward is willing to open fresh talks come the summer.
However, the player’s decision to defer negotiations until a later date leaves City stewing on their original offer.
The Mail claim Jesus will demand a pay increase from his £50,000 weekly salary to £100,000 - more than what City were prepared to offer this month.
That would still be a relatively small sum for the 20-year-old compared to some of his team-mates, with Sergio Aguero supposedly on £250,000 a week and Kevin De Bruyne £200,000.
Jesus is widely felt to be the man in line to succeed Aguero as the lead striker for City for years to come and the Premier League leaders are determined to keep him at the club.

Indeed, the Brazil international would likely attract attention from major clubs across Europe were he to snub a second contract offer from City.
Jesus has scored just one goal for City since November, having had six weeks out with a knee injury suffered in the 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace on New Year’s Eve.
He cost Pep Guardiola’s side £27m when arriving from his native Brazil and is expected to earn a call up for the World Cup this summer.
