Giants starter Madison Bumgarner fractured his left hand after being a hit by a line drive in Friday's Spring Training game against the Royals. He is expected to miss six to eight weeks, according to ESPN. Time

The stage couldn't have been more perfectly prepared. And Vladimir Guerrero Jr. played the starring role to perfection.

Playing in the city where his father started his Hall of Fame career, the Toronto Blue Jays prospect came to the plate with two outs in the bottom of the ninth of a 0-0 tie with the St. Louis Cardinals.

And with a familiar flair, in the former home of the Montreal Expos — Olympic Stadium — while wearing his father's jersey No. 27, Guerrero sent the crowd home in a frenzy.

What might be even more amazing is the fact that Guerrero just turned 19 on March 16.

He split last season between Low-A Lansing (Mich.) and High-A Dunedin (Fla.), hitting a combined .323 with a .425 on-base percentage, 13 home runs and 76 RBI in 119 games.

In USA TODAY's fantasy baseball prospect rankings, he ranks second only to Ronald Acuna of the Atlanta Braves.

Guerrero Jr. is expected to begin the 2018 season at Class AA New Hampshire, but there's nothing like a "welcome to the majors" moment in spring training — even better when it happens at the same ballpark where he tagged along with his father as a youngster.
