2019 Mazda CX-3 Takes Over New York With Electronic Parking Brake

Well, Mazda’s mystery New York Auto Show wasn’t at all significant as we’d hoped. Instead, it is simply a 2019 Mazda CX-3. Updates are minor to say the least.

The exterior of the new CX-3 is almost identical to the 2018 model. However, this is no bad thing as the CX-3 remains one of the most appealing and attractive vehicles in its segment. Subtle changes include a new front grille, additional chrome accents, Piano black elements, and the addition of Crystal premium paint.

Elsewhere, the 2019 CX-3 gets revised LED taillights and 18-inch wheels.

Most of the changes enjoyed by the 2019 CX-3 are limited to the interior. For example, an electronic parking brake has been fitted. The Japanese firm claims that this “allows for a significant increase in storage place.” We’re not so sure about the word ‘significant’ in that statement but nevertheless, some customers may be pleased to have a new button to play with…

In all seriousness, the electronic parking brake has allowed Mazda to fit an armrest and relocate the cupholders.

A better engine

Elsewhere, Mazda says the CX-3 receives a refined SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter petrol engine. This powertrain delivers 148 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque and is said to be more fuel efficient than the outgoing one. Mazda’s G-Vectoring Control is also featured, allowing for better steering.

Inside, there is some extra leather in the cabin, and redesigned seats promising to offer improved support. Additional changes include suede-like material on the dashboard and door panels as well as red louver accents around the air vents. Rear seat passengers also get a center armrest with built-in cupholders.

Sales of the 2019 Mazda CX-3 will start in spring 2018.

The CX-3 headlights don’t look anything like the teaser image.

    • Nordschleife

I have to agree but if this is it, Mazda needs an ass whooping.

        lol

b/c that was a pic of the Mazda 6, which now is available with AWD…

  • Christian

    Meh.

  • G82FS

Wow, an electronic parking brake, how thrilling…

The first thing I noticed when I got in a Mazda CX-3 for the first time was that there was no arm rest. Glad they finally added one.

The CX3’s back seats are inexcusably small and unusable. Its a handsome little thing, outside of that. But if it can’t seat at least 4 well, whats the point of a CUV?

    • Malik

Exactly. I liked CX-3 in person but it is hardly practical in terms of legroom and storage.

  • Harry_Wild

Needs a 2.5″ Turbo as an engine option!

  • pjl35

Glad they replaced the steering wheel with this new one. I always hated the old one when it was on every Mazda.

    Also apple car play

Didn’t anyone read today about a future release of an RX-9 and talk of a 929 which looks like it’ll be an upscale luxury Mazda. There’s a photo of the RX-9 out there posted today. I think this is more worthy of making news than a cx-3 interior upgrade.
