In an embarrassing goof up on Tuesday, BJP president Amit Shah said his party chief ministerial candidate BS Yeddyurappa headed the most corrupt Government in the State,” an accusation that was meant for Karnataka Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah. The Congress had a field day, making fun of Shah and calling his goof up as “the admission of truth”.
At a Press briefing on Tuesday after election date for Karnataka was announced, Shah said: “A retired judge of the Supreme Court recently said that if one were to hold a competition for the most corrupt Government in the country, Yeddyurappa Government would win the first place”.
He corrected himself when former BJP Karnataka chief Prahlad Joshi pointed it out, but his faux pas stunned former Chief Minister Yeddyurappa, who was sitting next to him.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi, himself a butt of jokes on many occasions, joked on Twitter that since the ‘BJP IT cell had announced Karnataka elections’, it was time to give a sneak preview of Congress’ ‘top-secret-campaign video’.
“Now that the BJP IT cell has announced Karnataka elections, time for a sneak preview of our top-secret campaign video! Gifted to us by the BJP president, our campaign in Karnataka is off to a fabulous start. He says Yeddyurappa ran the most corrupt Govt ever... True,” he tweeted.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said: “Amit Shah has spoken the truth, it’s not a mistake, he is right”.
Congress social media in-charge Divya Spandana, who also goes by the name Ramya, took to Twitter saying: “Who knew Amit Shah could also speak the truth - we all concur with you Amitji BS Yeddyurappa is the most corrupt!”
In another tweet, Ramya said this was not the first time Shah had expressed such feelings towards Yeddyurappa.
“This isn’t the first time btw- what exactly are Amit Shah’s feelings towards Yeddyurappa? All’s not good in the hood,” her tweet said.
