The market breadth was in favour of the declines with 459 stocks advancing while 1175 declined and 384 remained unchanged. On the other hand, in the BSE, 661 stocks advanced and 1369 declined and 109 remained unchanged.
The Indian equity market were trading lower on Wednesday afternoon with the Nifty shedding 32 points at 10,152 mark while the Sensex was down 100 points or 0.3 percent.
The Nifty metal index was down 1.3 percent dragged by stocks including Bhushan Steel, Hindalco Industries, Jindal Steel & Power, Tata Steel, NALCO and Hindustan Copper among others.
The top Nifty gainers included Maruti Suzuki and Tech Mahindra which were up 2 percent each while Wipro, BPCL and Hero Moto were the other gainers.
The most active Nifty stocks included Fortis Healthcare which slumped over 12 percent while Maruti Suzuki, Tata Steel, Kotak Mahindra Bank and State Bank of India were the other active stocks.
The top Nifty losers were Tata Steel which shed over 3 percent followed by Bharti Airtel and Adani Ports which was down 2 percent each. Hindalco Industries and ONGC were the other top losers.
The top BSE gainers included Mahindra Holidays which was up close to 7 percent followed by Mahindra Lifespace, Oberoi Realty, Bajaj Corp and NIIT.
The top BSE losers included names like Kwality which tanked close to 20 percent while Fortis Healthcare, Persistent Systems, Delta Corp and GSK Consumer were the other losers.
Bharat Financial Inclusion, Nestle India, Titan Company and TV18 Broadcast were few Nifty stocks which hit fresh 52-week high in today's trade.
116 stocks hit new 52-week low including names like Amtek Auto, Balrampur Chini, Cummis India, Gitanjali Gems and Kwality were some of the stocks that hit fresh 52-week low.
