TMT all set to flag off 50 all women buses by mid-June

Thane: The Thane Municipal Transport (TMT) on Wednesday announced plans to flag off 50 all women Tejawini buses by mid-June. This will come as a relief to women commuters who at the moment are forced to travel by crowded buses.

The TMT has received a samction to the proposal on Wednesday and will hire 125 women conductors. The midi-buses will be operated as per the contract; wherein the vehicle will be driven and maintained by the contractor who will share part of the revenue generated with the corporation.


Meanwhile, TMT officials said that the buses would ply to various parts of the city, especially during peak hours when the demand for such special buses are more. A preliminary study by the undertaking has revealed that Manpada, Patlipada, Kasarvadawli, Vasant Vihar, Wagle Estate, among other are the popular routes from the ladies special buses.


“We have approved the proposal of hiring 125 female conductors to operate in various shifts for the 50 buses that will ply in the TMT fleet. The buses are expected to hit the city roads by June and so we have started the process of hiring staff on contract basis. The contractor who presents the best competitive package to the TMT will be awarded the contract to ply the services,” said Anil Bhor, outgoing chairman of the TMT.
