The Peace Accord Review Committee has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide special housing assistance for members of the erstwhile underground Mizo National Front (MNF), who had returned to the main stream after the Mizo Accord was signed in 1986.
Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla today said this in a written reply to a query from Lalruatkima of the MNF in the state Assembly.
Lal Thanhawla said several demands of the former MNF personnel were taken into consideration by the Committee and had been considering absorbing family members of the former militants in the state government service.
He said that the Peace Accord Review Committee was set up on August 13, 2015 under the chairmanship of state chief secretary but it was dissolved and reconstituted under the chairmanship of the chief minister on May 2, 2017.
The committee had held five meetings till date and a sub-committee was formed to send proposals for housing assistance and ex-gratia payment to the Government of India for the MNF returnees, he added.
The MNF and the Centre had signed the Mizo Accord on June 30, 1986, after 20 years of insurgency in Mizoram.
