Following the news of alleged sexual harassment of a woman research scholar by a Left leaning professor of Jawaharlal Nehru University’s (JNU) School of International Studies (SIS), the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) protested for the third time outside the SIS on Monday.
The ABVP demanded that the accused professor, along with other two professors, who are accused of ‘shielding’ him should be immediately suspended and enquiry should be initiated against all three of them. According to the sources, the accused professor sexually harassed the scholar while they were on a trip to China. Professor Mahendra P Lama is accused of sexual harassment of a fourth year research scholar. While the other two professors including professor Rajesh kharat and Ajay Patnaik are accused of shielding his ‘heinous’ act.
Professor Lama has already denied the allegation and said the woman scholar has not submitted even a single draft of her research work and is a non-serious student. He said he never went on a trip abroad to China with her and her allegations are false. Professor Karat had denied commenting on the matter.
“The dual face of these 3 professors once again came to fore. On one hand they advocate women security while on the other hand miss no opportunity to take undue advantage of a women by outraging her modesty and sexually harassing her,” said Vijay Kumar, ABVP’s unit president at JNU.
