Vernon council is getting closer to approving a new bylaw that would ban smoking in more places.
The measures would prohibit smoking in parks and near bus stops –and not just tobacco, but also vaping and cannabis.
Most members of council support the new measures, but have requested a few changes.
Mayor Akbal Mund said the bylaw needs some tweaking as it currently would ban smoking on any highway which would include sidewalks and boulevards.
The changes were requested by transit bus drivers which wanted a bylaw similar to Lake Country’s.
