Bitter blow as Lions star Dyantyi out of Crusaders clash

    2018-03-27 11:24

Cape Town - Exciting wing Aphiwe Dyantyi has been ruled out of the Lions' Super Rugby clash against the Crusaders on Easter Sunday.

In fact, Dyantyi, who is the tied for top spot on the South African tryscorers charts alongside team-mate Malcolm Marx with five tries, will be sidelined for up to six weeks with a torn pectoral muscle.

It's a cruel blow for the 23-year-old who has been a revelation for the Lions in his maiden Super Rugby season.

The match is a repeat of last year's final which was won by the Crusaders 25-17, giving the star side from New Zealand their eighth Super Rugby title.

Kick-off on Sunday, April 1 is at 14:30.

Meanwhile, in better news for the Lions, loose forward Robert Kruger, who is recovering from concussion, and utility back Howard Mnisi, who sustained a knee contusion, should both be available for selection this weekend.

The Lions will also welcome back scrumhalf Ross Cronje and lock Andries Ferreira this week, both of whom missed last weekend's trip to Buenos Aires - where they lost 49-35 to the Jaguares - with Cronje having recovered from a rib injury and Ferreira from a back spasm.

Prop Jacobie Adriaanse is also fit again after a badly sprained ankle.

The Lions are currently top of the South African Conference and second in the Overall standings, while the Crusaders are top of the New Zealand Conference and third in the Overall log, having played one match fewer than their Johannesburg-based opponents.
