Centralised camps to evaluate pvt students’ exam scripts

It will improve quality of assessment, says MGU

Students under the private registration mode of Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) have something to cheer about.

The varsity is planning to evaluate the answer scripts of sixth semester private undergraduate students at its centralised evaluation camps beginning on April 23.

“We hope to form a separate team of evaluators to examine the answer scripts of private registration students along with the evaluation process for regular batches at our centralised valuation camps from April 23,” said R. Pragash, Syndicate member and examination sub-committee convener.

The decision to conduct parallel evaluation was taken after the varsity found that the publication of results of private candidates was being delayed.

Besides, the admission process for postgraduate programmes often gets stretched owing to delay in the announcement of final semester results.

Apart from speeding up the publication of results, the varsity authorities hope that evaluation of answer scripts of sixth semester private registration students at its centralised camps will improve the quality of assessment.

Dr. Pragash said that examination delays had been resolved, and that the results of sixth, fourth and first semester examinations for undergraduate students were expected by May 20. The results of final semester private students will also be published along with the regular exam results, he added.

The examination wing has brought the process back on track, with the timely publication of third semester results a few days ago.

The calendar for examinations and publication of results for the next academic year are expected to be on track once the results of sixth, fourth and first semester examinations are released by May. The centralised evaluation camps will be held at nine centres from April 23.

The 10-day camp will have 100% attendance as the authorities have made it mandatory for all teachers to attend it.

The process of doing away with home evaluation of answer scripts of undergraduate and postgraduate students will also begin this academic season. The decision was taken in the wake of the finding that the quality of evaluation of answer scripts at home did not match the standards achieved at centralised evaluation camps.
