Verstappen finished sixth in Melbourne during a disappointing race for the Dutchman.
He had endured a tough qualifying session the day before and spun 360 degrees on the first lap when trying to push up the pack.
Verstappen managed to finish the race but complained to his team that something was wrong with his car.
Yet no one in the garage could work out what had happened.
"At the back of the floor there are some conductors for the air (diffuser), which provide a lot of downforce,” Max Verstappen told Ziggo Sport.

The team has no explanation for this
“One of the biggest fins on that part was broken down.
“We watched with the team what exactly was going on, because after four or five laps I complained to the team that I had a strange feeling at the back of the car.
“During the pit stop we could also see that there was damage and later it turned out that during lap five a part of the back was bent down.”

Red Bull believe the damage to Verstappen’s car did was not sustained during his first-lap spin.
And the Dutchman admitted he struggled to keep the car under control for the rest of the race.
"The team has no explanation for this,” he added.
“It was not done by a kerbstone or something like that.
“It upset the car which made it difficult to estimate how to go into a corner.
“I had a few moments that were not on TV to watch, but the car could have been hit the wall four or five times.”
