Hotel secrets: Man reveals how to break into a hotel room using just a piece of paper

Hotels keep a number of secrets from guests when it comes to the cleanliness and safety of an establishment.

Unwashed glass, dirty bedspreads and old towels are just some of the recent stories to have emerged that any guests will be shocked by.

The safety of a room has also recently come under fire thanks to a recent video that has taken the internet by storm.

Within 30 seconds, a man is able to break into a locked room with just a piece of paper.

The YouTube video, featured on an account that specialises in lock knowledge, shows how a simple take-way menu can grant access to a room.

One man closes the top latch, locking the door from the inside.

Someone on the other side then uses a folded up pizza menu to push open the bottom latch.

When that is open, after a few tries, he can then shove the piece of paper between the top latch and the door frame to unlock it.

He explains in the comment: “Using only the paper pizza menus that were pushed under our door during the day, I can shim open our hotel room door defeating both the striker and the top swing arm latch in under 30 seconds.”

The YouTube video has had over 112,000 views since it was posted one day ago, with many taking to the comments on what he did.

One wrote: “This is why you should carry a wedge with you at all times.

Although many chose to correct the man and inform him: “Maybe use the dead bolt?”

Of course, using the deadbolt wouldn’t be possible if outside the room, leaving valuables inside like many travellers do.

It isn’t the first time a guest had shown how easy it is to break into a room.

Another YouTube video showed how easy it was to get into a safe without knowing the code.

Using a number of buttons, it is easily reset before getting it open, with everything inside it.
