Thousands of Scots with cancer have been forced to wait more than the target two months for the country’s “struggling” NHS to start their treatment, an eminent charity has disclosed.

Macmillan Cancer Support published an analysis of official figures showing 5,509 patients had been forced to wait longer for help over the past five years, with the Scottish Government having failed to meet its target deadline throughout this period.

The latest figures, covering the last three months of 2017, showed the goal of having 95 per cent of patients start getting help within 62 days was met for none of the main types of cancer.
