Former Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan has alleged that an app launched by the state government is sharing personal information of citizens with a private trust.
Speaking in Maharashtra Vidhansabha, Chavan alleged that the information collected by the state government app named 'Maha Mitra' is being shared with a private trust called Anulom.

'On Feb 1, 2016, the Directorate General of Information and Public Relation (DGIPR) launched a social media app called 'Maha Mitra'. Entire state machinery was put to work. But the data of the citizens of Maharashtra collected through this app was shared with a private trust called Anulom' Chavhan alleged.

The state government however, has denied this allegation.

Calling this a serious breach of data security, Chavan further alleged, "Data is being collected without the knowledge and permission of the user. A psychological micro targeting through weaponisation of the data is underway'.

Referring to a video taken during the launch of Anulom trust Chavan alleged that the trust is being run 'with blessings from none other than CM Devendra Fadanvis'

Meanwhile Minister of State (Home) Ranjit Patil denied the allegations.

"It's completely wrong to even remotely associate Maha Mitra app with data leak. This app only collected basic data like mobile number and e-mail address and no personal data whatsoever was collected so there is no question of sharing any data with a private trust," said Patil

"The app has just collected data of 85,000 youths and the response has been good. The app has also received recognition as a top ranking app. Apart from the mobile numbers and e-mail addresses no government data was uploaded on the app" Patil added.
