Q: A bit of a pet peeve but... Why do you guys always put the napkins on top of the burgers?! Half the time I go for the napkins they're dirty already from the sauce.
A: On all of our orders, we are told to put 1 napkin for every burger and 1 napkin for every fry. If it is a protein style burger, we have to put in an extra napkin since it's messier. I guess the reason we put them on top of the burgers in take out orders is because it's the only place we can put the napkins. Our spread is really messy, so you could always ask for extra napkins at the window after you get your food so you can make sure they're clean.

Q: Do you guys still allow 5x5's, 4x8's, and whatnot?
A: We aren't allowed to make anything larger than 4x4's anymore. 4x4's are already ridiculously hard to wrap and anything larger would just look like a total mess. Again, it's about presentation. If you want a larger burger, we can give you cheese patties on the side, but we're not allowed to actually assemble it for you.

Q: What is the weirdest thing you have been asked to make?
A: This job has made me learn that there are a lot of picky people. One guy wanted lettuce that was not too green, but not too yellow so we had to show him the lettuce to ask if it was an ok color to use on his burger. Another weird thing I was asked to make was a root beer float but with strawberry shake instead.

Q: Where does your meat come from?
A: Our meat is all local, because we're not allowed to freeze anything. So in my case, it's meat from a local California farm.

Q: The uniforms seem incredibly uncomfortable to wear in a kitchen. Are they?
A: The pants are HOT. When it's hot outside and we're on handheld, the pants kill you. And the hats for girls are really annoying. We have to tuck our ponytails in and bobby pin the hat to our hair otherwise it will fall off. It's just a much bigger hassle than the hats the boys get to wear.

Q: I understand switching to smaller trays, but why is it policy to put 2-3 orders on one? It's a hassle to go back for another one.
A: In-N-Out really prides itself on quality and presentation. So we can only fit 2 burgers and 2 fries on a tray at once without ruining the presentation. Or 4 fries on one tray and up to 6 burgers on one tray if they're by themselves. And you shouldn't have to return to the counter to grab the rest of your order; typically, an associate should help you carry the rest of your order to your table.

Q: What would you suggest for a new comer to one of your locations?
A: If you like spicy, you should try adding chopped chiles to your burger. I personally like mustard fried patties, which is when the cooks add mustard to the meat while it's grilling and adds pickles to the bottom bun. Ultimately, the more you customize your burger, the more you'll enjoy it. We can customize almost anything so don't be afraid to ask.

Q: What's your food price discount?
A: Associates get a free meal every shift. We can order anything up to the size of a double double. However, we can't order animal fries or shakes unless we pay for them ourselves. We also can't give discounts to friends or families. In fact, the only discount we do give out is a police officer discount.

Q: Do they have a temperature cap where they won't have people on handhelds?
A: I know in Arizona there's rarely a handheld outside during the summer because of how ridiculously hot it is. I'm in CA and I've only worked 2 shifts where we couldn't go outside because of the heat. One was because a customer saw me outside taking orders and complained to a manager saying it was messed up I was outside in 100 degree weather. It really depends on whether or not the manager thinks it's ok to be outside.

In-N-Out Burger seeks restraining order against prankster
LOS ANGELES (AP) — In-N-Out Burger is seeking a restraining order against an online prankster who posed as the company's CEO at two Los Angeles restaurants, argued with employees and in one instance took a hamburger from a customer, threw it to the ground and stepped on it, claiming it was "garbage."
The California-based chain filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles last week requesting the order against Cody Roeder, who posts YouTube videos under the name Trollmunchies, the Orange County Register reported Monday. An email seeking comment from Roeder was not immediately returned.

"We have recently seen an increase of visitors to our stores, who are not customers but instead are intentionally disruptive and who then try to promote themselves through social media," In-N-Out Executive Vice President Arnie Wensinger said in a statement. "These visitors have unfortunately used deceit, fraud, and trespass to their own advantage, and in each instance, they have attempted to humiliate, offend, or otherwise make our customers or associates uncomfortable."
The suit claims Roeder caused "significant and irreparable" harm to the chain with the incidents this month. It seeks damages of more than $25,000.
In-N-Out's attorneys say those who accompanied Roeder and covertly filmed the behavior, "are unjustly profiting from this illegal activity," and wants the restraining order extended to them as well. It seeks to keep them and Roeder from entering In-N-Out restaurants or harassing its employees and customers. They are not identified in court documents.
In one incident, Roeder appeared at a restaurant in business attire and claimed to be the ex-husband of In-N-Out CEO Lynsi Snyder-Ellingson. He claimed he was now the acting CEO of the chain and making a "surprise visit." He demanded kitchen workers make him a cheeseburger and fries for a "taste test," then left when he was further challenged.
VIDEO: In-N-Out's actual CEO is really, really interesting
But, the lawsuit says, he showed up at another restaurant the next day, making the same claim about being the CEO and demanding at the main register to speak to the manager regarding the "contamination" of the food, according to the lawsuit.
When Roeder "failed to incite a reaction from employees, (he) then approached a customer, picked up his burger, and began pulling the patty apart in the middle of the restaurant claiming it was contaminated."
When the manager promised the customer a new hamburger, Roeder, who had been told to leave, "proceeded to throw the burger on the ground in the middle of the restaurant and step on it, telling the customer it was 'garbage,'" the lawsuit stated.
A 10-minute video uploaded by Trollmunchies on March 14 shows scenes from both incidents. The video has had nearly 27,000 views, and the channel has 627,460 subscribers.
Similar prank disruptions featuring Roeder have been recorded at Taco Bell and the Ralphs supermarket chain, according to the newspaper. Taco Bell and Ralphs declined to comment on the matter.
