DySP treated rudely by auto drivers in Mumbai

Pune: Deputy Superintendent (DySP) of Police (Hingoli) Sujata Patil on March 24 got a shock in Mumbai when four autorickshaw drivers refused to ferry her to DN Nagar from Andheri West railway station at 10 am. 

She had returned from training in Bhopal and was in plain clothes and chose not to disclose her identity. She narrated the incident in a Facebook post and messaged it to the DCP of the area for action against two policewomen who behaved rudely when she sought their help. 

“My daughter was ill and plaster from my fractured leg was recently removed, so I was in pain. I was carrying two bags. I hailed autorickshaws but four of them refused. On the other side of the road, I saw a policewoman and waved at her but she asked me to go there. When I asked her to intervene, she was rude and asked me to go away. Another policewoman asked me not to be ‘smart’. When I asked for their names and numbers, they told me nobody can do anything to them. Instead of being sympathetic, the cops and the autorickshaw drivers made fun of me. The policewoman said they are not my servants and asked me to go away. I dialled 100 and disclosed my identity, but yet no help came. Finally an autorickshaw driver took pity on me and dropped me home. He refused to take extra money,” she said.

When asked about the complaint to the local police station, Patil added, “I had written the post so that the message reaches the larger public and police personnel. I also called up the senior inspector but he disconnected my call. I sent a complaint to DCP (Zone 9) Paramjit Dahiya sir for action against the erring police staffers.”

Patil said in her jurisdiction police personnel are being sensitised about their behaviour with the public. “I will make sure my constables are not rude to people when they seek their help,” she added.
