A woman, who was allegedly thrashed by her Arab husband, lodged 12 police complaints against the man in a span of one month.
Three of these were referred to the public prosecutors, who put the cases before the Sharjah Criminal Court.
The court on Tuesday charged the husband with assault, insult and slander, even as the man pleaded not guilty. The case has been adjourned till mid-April when the court will hear the woman's testimony.
The husband said that he was shocked when he learnt that his wife had lodged 12 complaints against him within a month, accusing him of beating and humiliating her. He said that these "false" complaints were lodged at the police station.
The man said that his wife had become a trouble-maker of late. He said he was surprised when he started receiving calls from the cops asking him to come to the police station. The husband claimed that they had a normal family life in the past and it was only two months back that differences cropped up, when his wife started creating problems for him. To his dismay, she fabricated stories of husband-bashing and verbal abuse as well, he added.
