What initiatives has YIEDA taken to ensure safety of commuters on Yamuna Expressway?

We have roped in Google to inform drivers about the speed limit through Google Maps. The app will notify the driver whenever the vehicle crosses the speed limit.

What steps have been taken to curb speeding on expressway?

We recently had a meeting with officials of expressway operator and finalised a plan — traffic violators will receive a fine slip along with a toll slip. Records of vehicles that could not be fined on the spot will be sent to Regional Transport Offices concerned and violators will have to deposit the fine amount within 15 days.

Why no challans for drunk driving?

The matter has been discussed with the traffic police and will be taken care of by the UP Traffic Police.

What steps are being taken to cut down accidents on expressway?

We keep meeting expressway officials to discuss safety and security of commuters on the stretch. Recently, we proposed installation of 165 median crash barriers on the stretch after a bus fell into the gap between carriageways.

Is speeding a major menace on the expressway?

It is a major issue and is responsible for most of the accidents but we cannot put speed guns at every point. Regular violators know the location of speed guns and slow down their vehicles to avoid prosecution.

Is there any monitoring on safety systems available on the expressway?

The Central Road Research Institute had conducted a safety audit and they keep checking with the management about the status of safety checks recommended. The study suggested speeding and drivers falling asleep at the wheel as the two main reasons behind accidents.
