Beverly J. Spencer, 82, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2018, at The Gardens of Cedar Rapids. A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 8300 C Ave. NE. The Rev. Steve Qualben will officiate. There will be a visitation from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date in Duluth, Minn. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Bev was born in Duluth, Minn., on October 24, 1935, the fifth child of Austin and Cora Alreck. She attended public schools in Duluth. Following graduation, she attended business school and then worked for Mathison Tire Co. and General Electric. She met her husband, Dick, at the roller rink in Duluth, where they spent many happy hours together. They were married Sept. 27, 1958. Bev always had been close to her faith and church, teaching Sunday school and working on various committees and projects.
Bev is survived by her loving husband, Dick; three children, Stephen and Scott of Cedar Rapids and Mary Beth Payne (Sean) of Lisbon; her five grandchildren, Stevie, Austin, Bailey, Allison and Alexis; a brother, Oden (Joanne); and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, LeRoy and Chester; and a sister, Eleanor Straw and husband Harry.
Bev and Dick were fortunate to have all the family close by. Bev and Dick spent many happy times together, traveling regularly to Duluth to visit relatives, river-rafting out West, and trips to Norway, Switzerland and Hawaii.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkinson's Research, Camp Courageous or Care Initiative Hospice.
