If long flights make you nervous but have to travel anyway, there is some good news – particularly for air travelers between Australia and England.
The first direct flight between Australia and Britain has landed in London, which has been explained as a “historic day for aviation”.
Taking off from Perth on Sunday, the flight service has reduced the time of flying by almost three hours by skip stopovers in Singapore or the Middle East, as explained by Qantas officials.
Tired passengers on the 17 hours flight, controlled by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, landing in London at 5.05 am this morning, covering 14,484 kms altogether. Just by placing time into perspective, travelers would have had time to enjoy the first seven of the eight Harry Potter movies and relish them out and out.
It is the second-longest flight in the world after Qatar Airways service between Doha and Auckland covering 14,529 kms, or just 45 kms more than the stretch from Perth to London.
The flight highlighted a “historic day for aviation”, as explained by Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce.
“From today it will be the first link between Australia and Europe that has ever occurred non-stop in aviation,” he told reporters at a launch event. “We are so excited.”
Around 730,000 British tourists entering Australia every year and the new service has the chance to boost up the interest in the state of Western Australia, frequently remains unnoticed in favour of the country’s east coast, said Tourism Minister Steven Ciobo.
“There will be more opportunity than ever before for us to continue to showcase and highlight all the very best parts of Australia, including some of the most magnificent and iconic parts of Western Australia,” he said.
