Home Office Minister Caroline Nokes has defended the Government's decision to award the UK's passport contract to a European firm

A senior Government minister has been criticised after she told critics “there is no place for sentimentalism” in the procurement of the UK’s iconic, new passports.

The Government has been under fire from both senior Conservative and Labour MPs since it was revealed that a Franco-Dutch company is expected to win the £490 million deal to make the UK’s post-Brexit blue passports.

In a statement to the House of Commons on Monday, Home Office Minister Caroline Nokes said that the new passport contract offered the “best value” for money, highlighting that the UK should behave like a "global, outward-looking trading nation".
