A person working at a duty free shop at the Bandaranaike International Airport was arrested yesterday with foreign currency worth Rs 4.1 million.
He was carrying the money inside his shoes. Customs suspect that he was to hand over the money to another person, who was to smuggle the money out of the country.
The customs found 100,000 Saudi Riyal on the suspect, who is a 30 year old resident of Kurana, Negombo.
The Customs also apprehended a 40-year-old resident of Pettah who attempted to smuggle tiny gold bars worth Rs 671 500 to India, on Saturday. He was carrying the gold bars concealed on the handle of his luggage.
