‘Technologically-sound’ central control room in store for city

Will be part of Intelligent Traffic Management System

The Delhi Traffic Police will set up a “technologically-sound” centralised control room, which will be part of the much-awaited Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS), a senior police officer said on Sunday.

Speed violation

The ITMS, to be implemented in phases, will involve building a comprehensive system that will include setting up of traffic detecting sensors, Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras, speed violation detection at important crossings and signalised pedestrian crossings, the official added.

Electronically-captured data from these devices will be monitored and analysed at the centralised control room.

The system aims to provide intelligent reporting, traffic management and enforcement to enable proper traffic regulation and an enforcement mechanism, the officer said.

“The integrated traffic command and control room will have five regional centres and circle-level nodes for effective and remote traffic management. Insights generated at traffic control rooms with the help of input nodes like cameras, traffic volume sensors and field functionaries, among other components, will be made available to the public on a real-time basis,” the officer said.

Social media connection

The officer added that the control room will also be involved in information exchange with Google Maps, Twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms for real-time information availability to motorists to aid them in planning their commute and to avoid congestion.
