    Second session underway

Back for the second session. Woakes joins Stokes in the middle. Grey clouds in the horizon... Four wickets to get for New Zealand

  2. 8:33AM
    26 Mar, 18
    TEA!

Moeen Ali's dismissal also brings about the end of the first session and Tea. Malan, Bairstow and Ali the wickets lost for England in the opening session. The task to defend this Test looks tough from here on. Stokes is unbeaten on 26

  3. 8:32AM
    26 Mar, 18
    MOEEN ALI GONE!

Big appeal for lbw on Moeen Ali and it has been reviewed. Plenty of pace in that delivery by Boult and Ali is slow to get his bat down to defend. The ball brushed both front and pack pads. Hit the front pad then an inside edge followed by the back pad. Looking at the impact on the front pad then and it is plumb in the middle. England are 217/6

  4. 8:19AM
    26 Mar, 18
    NEW BALL!

New Zealand take the new pink ball. Trent Boult will have first chance at making it work. Not the best over from the left arm seamer. Keeping it wide and outside off to Stokes.

  5. 7:50AM
    26 Mar, 18
    BAIRSTOW DEPARTS!

Just moments after Boult dropped a sitter, Williamson takes a screamer to dismiss Bairstow. Poor delivery from Astle, it is short and doing little, Bairstow pulls it straight to Williamson at mid-wicket. Kane goes flying and takes the catch above his head. WHAT. A. CATCH!

  6. 7:40AM
    26 Mar, 18
    DROPPED!

That is poor from Boult. What was he thinking and doing? Came straight at him at mid-on after Bairstow rocked on to the backfoot and spanked that. Boult almost looked straight ahead after almost gobbling that up and then let it go.

  7. 7:18AM
    26 Mar, 18
    DRINKS!

Stokes and Bairstow have been smart with their approach in the first session of play. Leaving and blocking with rather ease. But can they hold out for two and a half sessions? England 166/4 and trail by 203 runs

  8. 6:35AM
    26 Mar, 18
    MALAN GONE!

With Southee bowling round the wicket in a teasing line, Malan tries to jab at it, gets an outside edge and goes down second slip's throat. Latham is safe pair of hands and Malan walks for 23. England are 142/4
