Ramanavami celebrated with gaiety

Festive spirit: Volunteers distributing panaka and butter milk during Ramanavami celebrations in Mysuru on Sunday.

Temporary stalls to distribute ‘panaka’ and butter milk were set up

Ramanavami celebrations on Sunday saw people flocking to temples dedicated to Lord Ram.

The Maruti temple at TK Layout, Sitaramaswamy temple on the Sita Vilas Road, Sri Rama temples Vidyaranyapuram, Krishnamurthypuram, Jayanagar, Shivarampete and other places was a beehive of activity with special prayers and rendering of devotional songs.

The celebrations and prayers will be held throughout the next week in some of the temples, and conclude with Sri Rama Pattabhisheka.

Organisations and individuals had set up temporary stalls to distribute panaka and butter milk — traditions that are unique to the State — to help devotees beat the heat.

The panaka and butter milk, along with kosambari – another traditional delicacy – were offered at various places in the city.

This was also witnessed close to villages and towns along a few of the highways connecting Mysuru with the rural hinterland.
