The Jaguar F-Pace SVR, a hot version of Jaguar’s first SUV model, will be revealed on Wednesday at this week's New York motor show.
The performance SUV was last spotted testing in camouflage form at the Nürburgring last year.
The model borrows its supercharged 5.0-litre block and eight-speed automatic gearbox from the Jaguar F-Type SVR. The F-Pace SVR will have up to 567bhp and 516lb ft on tap, and it's expected to have four-wheel drive.
The camouflaged car showed that Jaguar's production Porsche Macan Turbo rival will have an aggressive front spoiler, along with two huge air intakes either side of the front numberplate.
The model also gets larger diameter wheels and wider tyres to signify its extra potency. Other changes will include a titanium exhaust as well as tweaks to the suspension.
In the F-Type, the V8 engine propels the car to a top speed of 200mph, but it's highly unlikely that the F-Pace SUV will match that figure. A 0-62mph time of around 4.0sec is probable, beating the Macan Turbo and its 4.4sec sprint. It's therefore possible that the F-Pace SVR will be the quickest mid-sized SUV on the market.
Currently, the quickest F-Pace you can buy is the 3.0-litre V6 petrol model, which can cover 0-62mph in 5.5sec.
While an entry-level F-Type costs around £50,000, the SVR version costs more than £100,000. The entry-level F-Pace costs £35,000, so it's likely that the hardcore SVR version will command a price of around £70,000 or more, making it comparable to but more expensive than a Macan Turbo, which is priced from £63,000.
The F-Pace SVR is the latest creation from Jaguar Land Rover's £20 million SVO technical centre in Coventry as the manufacturer looks to boost its SVO production numbers by 50% from the current annual total of 3500 units.
