PUNE: A motorcyclist and his pillion rider were run over by a tempo after their bike collided with a scooter at Charholi Phata near Dighi on Monday morning.

A management student driving the scooter suffered injuries. Assistant inspector Mahendra Kadam of the Dighi police said the student, Sanket Pillay, was under treatment in a nearby hospital and out of danger.

The deceased were identified as Kailas Kale (38) and Kiran Sawant (32), both from Charholi. “Kale and Sawant, both labourers, were not wearing helmets. Their motorcycle was on the wrong side,” said Kadam.

The accident occurred around 10am, when Pillay was going to his college in Alandi. Near Charholi Phata, a tempo started overtaking him. Sawant and Kale came from the wrong side and collided with Pillay’s scooter. They fell, came under the tempo’s wheels and died on the spot.
