Activists of National Students Union of India (NSUI) staged a protest at the premises of Kuvempu Rangamandir in the city on Sunday opposing the visit of Amit Shah, Bharatiya Janata Party national president, to Kuppalli, the birth place of poet laureate Kuvempu on March 26.

Addressing the protest meet, Madhusudan, a functionary of NSUI, said Kuvempu had strongly opposed discrimination practised in the name of religion and caste. As Mr. Shah is heading a political party that believes in the right wing ideology, he has no moral right to visit Kuppalli, he said.

He added that while Kuvempu was a strong believer in Vishwamanava ideology or universal humanism, the BJP is trying to create a social rift in the name of religion.

Functionaries of NSUI Chethan Gowda, Sharath, Girish, and Mohammed Arif Ulla took part in the protest.
