THANE: Residents from the lake city have been sweating it out as the maximum temperatures soared above 44 degrees Celsius on Sunday. Even on Monday, residents didn’t get much respite as the maximum temperature was 42 degrees Celsius. The Thane municipal corporation (TMC) has issued an advisory urging citizens to take the necessary precautions to beat the heat wave, which has been predicted by the IMD.
From drinking adequate water to wearing protective gear and avoid stepping out between noon and 3pm, the TMC has requested citizens to keep themselves hydrated all the time. While the maximum temperatures had hovered around 35 degrees Celsius last week, it shot up to 44.5 degrees Celsius on Sunday. The temperatures continued to hover around 42 degrees Celsius on Monday. The minimum temperature, too, rose from 23.1 degrees Celsius last week to 25 degrees Celsius on Sunday, and further up to 28 degrees Celsius on Monday.
Meanwhile, weather officials have said that the high mercury levels will remain constant the next 24 to 48 hours, after which it will drop slightly.
“The sudden gust of hot air is a result of the changing wind directions from the cool northerly winds to the south easterly and easterly winds coming from Telangana and neighbouring regions,” said Mahesh Palawat, chief meteorologist at Skymet Weather.
“The sea breeze, which is also warm, increases the heat in the afternoon. Central Maharashtra, Goa and Konkan regions, including Mumbai and Thane, are bound to face high temperatures over the next 24 to 48 hours,” he added.
