JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda on Monday said that his grandson Prajwal Revanna would at no point defy his uncle and JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy and his decisions.

Addressing reporters in Bengaluru, Gowda said that Prajwal had given a "fitting" reply to the party's detractors by stating that he would let his uncle decide his political future.

Gowda was referring to the remarks made by former Chamarajpet MLA B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan. Khan had recently said that Kumaraswamy was threatened by his nephew's political growth, and was hence denying him the ticket to contest from Rajarajeshwarinagar. Khan had also invited Prajwal to join the Congress.

"It's ironic that the people who betrayed the party have suddenly developed an affection towards Prajwal. But, Prajwal has made it clear that nobody can split the Deve Gowda family. He has also said that his uncle would take a call on the Rajarajeshwarinagar candidature -- and that he will go by his uncle's decision," he added.

Gowda said that he would contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections provided his health permitted him. "I will contest the elections if my health permits me," he added.
