Cape Town – Claire Foy has finally spoken out about the pay disparity on Netflix’s, The Crown

Earlier this month producers of the hit show revealed that Matt Smith, who plays Prince Philip in the drama, negotiated a better deal than Foy because of his perceived higher profile. (Read more here)

However neither of the actors salaries were revealed. Variety reported last year that Foy's was put at $40 000 an episode.

The producers went on to apologise after a media storm erupted.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly Foy said she was not surprised at the interest in the story.

“I’m not [surprised about the interest in the story] in the sense that it was a female-led drama. I’m not surprised that people saw [the story] and went, ‘Oh, that’s a bit odd.’ But I know that Matt feels the same that I do, that it’s odd to find yourself at the centre [of a story] that you didn’t particularly ask for,” said Foy.

Foy has relinquished her crown to Broadchurch actress Olivia Colman who will be taking over the role in season 3.
