Traffic chaos after truck and car crash causes major delays on M5

There are major delays on the M5 after a truck and car crash in Revesby.

Two cars crashed on the M5 near Beaconsfield Street just before 5am and a truck driver tried to avoid the collision but also crashed, tipping the vehicle over, a Transport Management spokeswoman said.

At its peak, city-bound traffic was banked up 23 kilometres but by 9.20am eastbound traffic had returned to normal.

Two westbound lanes were initially closed to traffic and one remained closed as emergency services waited for a salvage crew to remove the truck, the spokeswoman said.

Westbound traffic queues peaked at 15 kilometres, and by 9.20am had reduced to 10 kilometres.

There were no reports of serious injury, and an ambulance spokesman said two patients were assessed at the scene but not taken to hospital.

Motorists were earlier advised to avoid the area or allow plenty of extra travel time.
