Monisponn Ani Devosponn

Cruz Pinto has released his new tiatr for the season of Lent. ‘Monisponn ani Devosponn’ recounts the lives of couples, who have doubts, who are unfaithful and the resultant consequences that innocent people have to face.

A husband who feels he is very rightful, divorces his wife because she cannot conceive. She marries another man, conceives but dies in childbirth. He marries another woman but is still unable to conceive.  Then it is found, that he is impotent. Another couple have plenty of quarrels. The husband feels that his wife has cheated and the child she is carrying is not his. He gets her to abort it. Then he begins wooing his wife’s sister. She refuses. There is commotion, blame game and finally, someone who was not involved in any evil, gets killed.

This is a Lenten show. Many thought provoking dialogues but at times these have nothing to do with the main story. Sounds quite preachy, but the dialogues on their own make good sense and give a good message. There are some funny moments in the comedy. The songs deliver good messages and the music is very pleasant. The cast has Roma and Melinda as the wives. Meena is the young sister-in-law.  The ladies perform well. Rosario is the husband who had divorced his wife and Joe Dicarpale makes a fine, selfish villain. Anif acts well as the doctor and Agnelo Lobo portrays anger without the yelling.   Dorothy, Selvy and Agnelo (comedian) provide the lighter moments. Dorothy is great with the stutter.

Piety (trumpet), Jose (keyboard), John (drums) and Jose (bass) play good music to back the songs.  Melinda renders the opening song. The other songs have messages of goodness, sacrifice and love of the neighbour. Roma, Rosario de Benaulim, Anil Pednekar, Olga Vaz and others render these songs. A solo each from Joe, Evaristo and a trio with Evaristo-Agnelo-Joe need special mention.
