Rehoboth Beach Police said they arrested a man early Sunday morning they believe was trying to elude them because he was drunk.

Police said an officer saw 30-year-old Evan Mock driving a red Mitsubishi Galant in a suspicious manner. Police said he pulled off the road twice, once into a business lot where he turned off his headlights before returning to the road with them on later.

In the area of Rehoboth Avenue Extended westbound and Del. 1, police said the officer activated his emergency lights in an attempt to stop Mock. Mock didn't stop, according to police, and continued northbound onto Del. 1 driving around 50 mph.

Police said that while the officer followed him, Mock committed multiple traffic violations, including driving on the wrong side of the roadway. Eventually he pulled over, but he did not get out of the car as instructed, police said.

When officers saw Mock motion as if he was going to start the vehicle again, they responded by restraining and removing him from the vehicle, police said. Mock resisted the officers but was taken into custody, police said.

He and officers involved sustained minor abrasions during the incident, police said.

Mock was charged with one count of felony resisting arrest with force or violence; one count of felony disregarding a police officer’s signal; one count of driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and any drug; one count of failing to stop at a stop sign; two counts of driving a vehicle on the wrong side of the roadway; one count of failure to have license in possession; one count of failure to have registration in possession; and one count of no proof of insurance.

Mock was committed to Sussex Correction Institution on $2,356 secured bail.
