The special task force in Punjab has seized 40 kg of heroin, estimated to cost nearly Rs 200 crore in the international market, on Sunday from the industrial city of Ludhiana.

One person, identified as Gurpal Singh from Amritsar, has been arrested for the crime. The accused was in a Maruti Swift car when he was apprehended by police near Vardhaman mills.

It was about four year ago that Ludhiana witnessed such a major haul. Heroin weighing 40 kg was seized in October 2014. Border state Punjab is notorious for drug peddling.

The Congress government under Capt Amarinder Singh has achieved major success in the last one year of rule to break drug supply lines and nexus.

Punjab accounts for more number of drug seizures in a year than from all states put together.
