Although the II pre-university exam evaluation is scheduled to begin on Monday, a section of evaluators of the physics paper have threatened to boycott it.
Lecturers from two centres in Bengaluru have alleged that though there is another error in one of optional questions in the paper, the committees that looked into the scheme of evaluation have not granted grace marks for it.
An evaluator said the lecturers have decided to boycott evaluation as they feel there was a printing error in a five-mark question.
At present, the Department of Pre-University Education has announced up to six grace marks for the physics paper. While one mark will be allotted for students for the compulsory question, another five marks will be awarded to those who attempted the wrong optional question. “If any student goes to court, this decision will go in the favour of the students and we will have to do the corrections again,” an evaluator said.
The evaluators have resolved to submit a memorandum on the matter to the department on Monday.
The decision to award up to six grace marks was taken after two subject expert committees met and scrutinised the question papers. In the past, grace marks were decided ‘arbitrarily’ by lecturers at the evaluation camps. It was only in 2017 that a scheme of evaluation was introduced.
As many as 2.32 lakh students appeared for the science stream exams.
