The Bhopal police on Sunday arrested four men for allegedly abducting and raping a 20-year-old college student. The police later paraded the men around the city where they were publicly shamed.

The four accused were paraded through busy streets where women slapped and thrashed them with shoes. They were also made to do sit-ups.

The victim was abducted from Maharana Pratap Nagar in Bhopal by two of the accused and was later taken to a house where the others arrived and raped her.

"All four involved have been arrested. One of the accused, who used to be her friend, tried to contact her and invited her to meet her at a friend's house to sort out issues. He then took her there and called some other friends to the place, where she was raped," said Rahul Kumar Lodha, Superintendent of Police.

According to the victim's complaint, she was invited by Shailendra Dangi, 21, her senior in college. The two had a fight over some issue after which Shailendra snatched her cell phone and took her to his friend Sonu Dangi's room near Apsara cinema.

Sonu Dangi (21), Dhiraj Rajput (26) and Chiman Rajput (25) were already present in the room, according to the complaint.

Shailendra and Dhiraj threatened to kill the victim and her family, and raped her, while Sonu and Chiman helped the duo, she told police in her complaint.

In November last year, a similar horrifying incident had come to light. A 19-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped and gangraped by four men for nearly three hours near the Habibganj Railway Station in Bhopal.

The girl, daughter of a cop couple, was kidnapped when she was returning from coaching classes for civil services exam in MP Nagar area.
