Maharashtra boys shine on day 2 of Youth National Boxing C'ship

boys came out all guns blazing at the Youth National Championships with as many as three pugilists registering comprehensive victories on the second day at the National Academy here today.

In 45kg, Maharashtra's Kailash Yadav romped past Shaikh Mohd. Fezan with a score of 5-0. Gujarat's Fezan couldn't adjust to Yadav's speed as he went down looking for cover.

Ajay Pendor's then notched up an identical win over Nagaland's in the flyweight (52 kg) category, while then extended Maharashtra's run via an unanimous decision after he fought tooth and nail against Kerala's in the bantamweight category.

However, Chandigarh's Anshul Punia (46-49 kg) and SSCB's Akash (64 kg) outpunched Maharashtra's Shivaji and Tushar Bisane, respectively.

In the women's section, Manipur's Heikrujjam (56 kg) had it easy against Telangana's Mutayla Sasikala as the referee had to intervene in the third round to stop the contest and deemed the lass from Telangana not fit to continue.

Another Manipuri girl displayed her class in the squared ring as she brushed aside the challenge from with ease.
