They will be installed soon at key intersections in Anna Nagar

Anna Nagar will soon have state-of-the-art equipment such as the Automatic Number-Plate Recognition (ANPR) and Red Light Violation Detectors (RLVD) at key junctions to nab motorists flouting traffic rules and other offenders.

This system will be put in place with assistance from Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF), the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of the Hyundai Motor India (HMIL).

The event on Saturday also marked the launch of city’s Traffic Regulation Observed Zone in Anna Nagar.

Launching the initiative, I. Eswaran, Deputy Commisioner of Police, Traffic-West said, ‘It is our endeavour to make Anna Nagar a safe zone for commuters, pedestrians and residents. Under the scheme, state-of-the-art equipment such as ANPR and RLVD cameras will be fitted at the high-traffic junctions. We have identified 63 places such Shanthi Colony, Anna Nagar Roundtana, Thirumangalam and other places, where these cameras will be installed.”

Over 100 volunteers undertook a door-to-door awareness campaign.

Stephen Sudhakar J, Trustee, Hyundai Motor India Foundation, said, “The spike in road accidents here is of great concern to us and hence we decided to join hands with the authorities to make Chennai a safe zone.”
