600 block of East Pickard, north side: In 1947 the brand new Mt. Pleasant Municipal Water Tower reigns 139 feet over the empty field in the above photo taken probably from the present Olson Tire Service location. That’s the old Crystal Ice Company ice plant, where ice was manufactured and stored, in the lower left. Presently, the western edge of the Walgreen’s North parking lot is in the area at the right and Mr. Muffler is below the tower. The old ice house is still there, now used for storage by Rise Machine Company. Mid-Michigan History is a Morning Sun feature by Jack R. Westbrook, author of “Mid-Michigan History,” “Mid-Michigan History 2,” and “Mid-Michigan History 3,” all available at the Alma office of the Morning Sun.
