Two days after a 33-year-old owner of a lounge-cum-bar was found dead with a gunshot injury inside the establishment, his friend was arrested on Friday. The police said that the man has been charged under the Arms Act.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) Aslam Khan said that Sandeep, who was absconding, was arrested on Friday morning.

“The weapon used by the deceased, Nasir Khan, belonged to Sandeep. An FIR was registered under Section 30 (Punishment for contravention of licence or rule) of the Arms Act,” she said.

Sandeep and two other friends, Shekhar and Deepak, were partying with Nasir at the time of the incident. They had fled after Nasir “accidentally” shot himself, said the police.

During interrogation, Sandeep allegedly told the police that they fled because they were scared. Narrating the sequence of events, Sandeep allegedly said that they were all drunk on Wednesday night.

“The gun is licensed. Sandeep said they were all drunk and he passed his gun around for his friends to see. When Nasir got it, he started playing around with it even though they told him to stop. It then went off accidentally,” said Ms. Khan.

The police said that prima facie there’s no foul play in the death.
