Sunday’s NASCAR race at Martinsville Speedway in Virginia, the STP 500, was postponed to Monday due to snowfall, the first snow-related postponement the sport has had since 1993.
Martinsville Speedway is located in the town of Ridgeway in south-central Virginia near the North Carolina border. Snow began falling there Saturday at the start of the Camping World Truck Series race, which was also postponed.
Before the postponements, NASCAR reportedly had a plan to vacuum up snow off the track. Instead, the truck race will resume Monday at 11 a.m. and the NASCAR race will follow.
Snow last affected a NASCAR Cup Series race in this way in Atlanta in 1993.
It is the sixth week of the NASCAR season. After a week off on Easter Sunday, the Cup Series will head to Texas Motor Speedway for the O’Reilly Auto Parts 500. Dates at Richmond Raceway in Virginia and Dover International Speedway in Delaware come soon after that, in April and early May.
