How an old chapel was transformed into a family home
The home
The former Bible Christian Chapel, built in Fitzroy in 1859, was converted into a residence in 2001 and updated in 2014. There are four bedrooms, a large wine cellar and a basement car park.
Roz, at left, and her children have decorated the former chapel in homage to its past. Marisa is wearing a dress she created as part of a recent show of wearable sustainable art.

What we did
"Working with architect Christopher Corby and my son Marcus we renovated the kitchen to allow a more central and shareable space," says Roz.
The island benchtop features London Grey Caesarstone and the rangehood is a bespoke design.
A Louis XVI day bed from Gary McPherson Antiques sits under the mezzanine floor, where a bedroom, bathroom and laundry have been added.

"My bedroom, with Marisa's beautiful painted wall. It is also wonderful to do yoga or Pilates on the floor in the middle of the main room," says Roz.
The former chapel has also done time as a Christian tabernacle, a furniture factory and a film production house. Its original bluestone façade was updated to a Greek Revival style in 1911.

"There is so much great food in Fitzroy, and when I open the doors to the courtyard I get the most incredible aromas coming from Smith Street."
Future plans
"We'd love to share this beautiful, historic space for classes, events and even hospitality," says Roz.
“We rebuilt the kitchen to allow a more central and shareable space. We share many family meals here, and make great use of the butler’s pantry and the wonderful natural light.”
